Welcome to the first international competition of music in Paris

Dear candidates, we are delighted to welcome you in the beautiful Berlioz auditorium at the Conservatory of Courbevoie (Paris-Ouest) where you will have the pleasure of playing on a Steinway & Sons concert piano in front of a large and warm audience. Members of the jury, all eminent musicians will listen to you with the greatest kindness and take responsibility. They will be together for this delicate task that provides moments of pure happiness because all are already running international competitions in their countries and are passionate about discovering new talent. The motto of our competition: "Revealing artists and enriching society". under a competition that is welcoming and benevolent. So we are waiting for you in this beautiful city for this wonderful musical encounter.

competition philosophy

The mission of the International Competition of Music in Paris is to encourage new generations of young musicians to transcend their own abilities by providing them with an international springboard. With participants from around the world and an internationally recognized jury, this competition will quickly become a must-attend event for the advancement of the culture and education of the younger generation.

Genral rules

1. The International Competition of Music in Paris is a new competition organised by association GCIP ( 1901 non-profit association)

2. This Piano and Chamber Music Competition is open to young musicians of all nationalities aged 28 or less at the time of the competition (July 10 – 13 2018)

3. There are four age categories in Piano competition: Category A: ages 5-9; Category B: ages 10-13; Category C: ages 14-16; Category D: ages 17-28

4.There are two-age categories In Chamber Music competition (all instruments with or without piano) Category A: up to 15; Category B: 16-28; Voice: up to 28

5.Applicants must complete the online registration form and send the following pdf or jpeg files no later than May 25, 2018 :

  • CV in English or French languages
  • A recent digital photo in high resolution, max 2 MB
  • A copy of the candidate’s passport
  • A passport scan of the parent/supervising adult if the applicant is under 18 years of age
  • If the candidate is under 18, please send us the parental consent form. (to download on the site)
  • Proof of payment -scan of bank transfer details to following account:

  • The complete program of the semi-final and the final rounds with timing (It is not possible to change the program after registration.)

6. The application fees are not refundable

7. A candidacy will only be confirmed after we have received your application fee.

8. The registered candidates will receive by mail their order of passage, the schedule of the personal work before the semi-final as well as the detailed plan of competition after the closing of the registrations envisaged on May 25 2018

9. Thank you to notify us by email in case of withdrawal.

10. The exact number of Finalists is subject to the jury’s decision.

11.The decision of jury is final and will not be subjected to reviews or appeals.

12. The whole competition is open to the public within the limits of available places.

13. All video and audio recording as well as photos remain the property of competition and can not be subjected to any remuneration to the candidates. The competition registration is agreement for all candidates and their parents.

14. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult who will carry full responsibility over the minor at all times during the competition period. If the adult is not the participant’s parent, a permission note (signed) must be submitted by at least one of the parents with the application.

15. All travel costs such as tickets and visas, are to be carried out by the participants. The participants are solely responsible to apply for their own visa however an invitation letter will be available by the ICMP upon request. Visa requirements are to be requested at the respective embassy or consulate.

16. Participants are also responsible for their own accommodation costs.

17. The association GCIP , organizer of the competition has a liability insurance that covers the incidents that may occur during the course of competition for candidates, but in no case the parents or accompanying persons.

18. It is advised to check the personal insurance of participants and the accompanying adult in order to guarantee coverage of accidents and incidents outside the competition venue.

19. The name of candidate’s teacher/professor will not be printed in the program for the jury.

20. If a candidate is studying with a member of the jury, that member of the jury will not be allowed to vote for his student.

21. The jury will be composed by world-renowned musicians, concert players and pedagogues. The names of the jury members will be posted on the site www.icmp.fr two months before the start of the competition.

22. The jury reserves the right to interrupt the candidate in case of non respect of the scheduled timing .

23. Memory interpretation is required except for chamber music.

24. The jury reserves the right not to award all the prizes if it judges the level of the candidates not sufficient.

25. All prizes can be given ex-aequo and divided equally. Defeated who are not present at the award ceremony and the final concert will lose their prize and the awarding diploma.

26. Rules may be subject to change without notice.

27. The entry in the competition implies the acceptance of the present rules without any reserve .

Piano competition program

There are four age categories for pianists:

  • Category A: from 5 to 9. Semi-final - free program from 2 to 6 mins. max.
  • Final - Free program - from 5 to 8 min. max.
  • Category B : from 10 to 13. Semi-final - free program from 5 to 8 min.max.
  • Finale – Programme libre de 8 à 12 min.max.
  • Category C : from 14 to 16. Semi Final - free program from 8 to 12 min.max.
  • Final – free program from 10 to 15 min .max.
  • Category D : from 17 to 28. Semi-final - Free program from 12 à 15 min.max.
  • Final – Free program from 25 to 30 min.max.
  • For the category D please send us a YouTube link or a dvd with an excerpt from your program or others works ( 10 -15 mins maximum) for the first round by recording.
    (It is not possible to change the program after registration.)
  • Please make a photocopy of your scores for the jury.

The non-refundable application fees are as follow:

Category A : 60€, Category B : 70€ Category C : 80€, Category D : 90€

Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded to the winners of each respective category: (Prizes may increase depending on the participation of sponsors)

  • Category A : first Prize - 200€ ; 2nd Prize - 100€ ; 3rd Prize - 50€
  • Category B : first Prize - 300€ ; 2nd Prize - 150€ ; 3rd Prize – 80€
  • Category C : first Prize – 400€; 2nd Prize - 200€; 3rd Prize – 100€
  • Category D : first Prize - 1000€ ; 2nd Prize - 400€ ; 3rd Prize – 200€
  • The audience will select the “Public Prize” from the final round of Category D

The winners of the International Competition of Music in Paris may also be invite to perform at the Festival ” Voyage d’hiver” in France or make tours with orchestra in China or will have other opportunities.

Program for chamber music competition

There are two categories for the participants in Chamber Music :
Category A : until 15 years old .

  • Semi-final – Free program round 10 min. max.
  • Finale – Free program round 15 min.max.

Category B : from 16 to 28 years old, (voices: until 28 years old)

  • Semi-final - free program round 15 min.max.
  • Final - free program round 20 min.max.

(It is not possible to change the program after submission).<

Please bring one photocopy of your program for the jury.

The non-refundable application fees are as follow:

  • Category A : 60€ per candidate and package of 150€ for group of three or more
  • Category B : 70€ per candidate and package of 180€ for group of three or more

Prizes

The following prizes will be awarded to the winners of each respective category: (Prizes may increase depending on the participation of sponsors)

  • Category A : 1st Prize -300€; 2nd Prize – 150€ ; 3rd Prize -80€
  • Category B : 1st Prize – 1000€ ; 2nd Prize – 400€ ; 3rd Prize -200€

The audience will select the “Public Prize from the final round in both categories. The Public Prize can be a touch pad or other similar gifts

The winners of the International Competition of Music in Paris may also be invite to perform at the Festival ” Voyage d’hiver” in France or make tours with orchestra in China or will have other opportunities.
